The Lords of the Manor Concierge Guide to the Cotswolds

Lords of the Manor prepares to leave 2019 in great spirits, with the news that we are the Good Hotel Guide Editor’s Choice Country House Hotel of the Year 2020. It has all put an extra spring in our step, as we celebrate our 2019 refurbishment, AA Rosettes and a much coveted additional Good Food Guide point.

A great time to stay at Lords of the Manor and, we say, a pretty great time to visit the Cotswolds too. Andy, our Concierge, and Kelly, Front of House Manager, have put together this guide to Cotswolds in the Winter months.

Late Tree Colour and Treeshapes

As Monty Don reaffirmed recently, Autumn arrived very late this year and we can expect tree colour well into
November. Through the winter photographers and walkers are fascinated by Cotswold treeshapes. Cotswold beech
trees have a stark beauty all of its own, rewarding walkers with a view of winter sun through its branches. For an
easy-to-access experience of the Cotswolds in Winter, head to nearby Batsford Arboretum.

Best Seasonal Walk

The best walks have an objective in mind and we love the walk to Broadway Tower, there is a short walk from the car park to the Tower, which you can climb for views over Broadway and beyond. You’ll probably see some deer. There’s a good cafe too. For a longer walk, take the circular walk from Broadway village. Lights and Action!

The Cotswolds events season continues through the Winter. Highlights include:

National Hunt Racing Cheltenham Racecourse. (15-17 Nov, 13&14 Dec, 1 & 25 Jan)
Spectacle of Light at Sudeley Castle – next level illuminations. (Nov 30 – Dec 30)
Christmas Lights at Blenheim Palace (Nov 22 – Jan 1)

Christmas shopping CAN be romantic and fun! Head to Stow-on-the-Wold, Daylesford Farm Shop, Chipping Campden or Bourton on the Water for small shops, galleries, personal service and those rare finds that you just can’t unearth anywhere else! Otherwise Cheltenham and Bicester Shopping Village are nearby. Christmas Markets in Winchcombe (3 Dec), Chipping Campden (7 & 8 Dec) and Cheltenham 21 Nov – 14th Dec) too. Top local Christmas present this year? Try Cotswold Distillery Whisky or Gin at their Bourton shop. Or our bar!
