Chef wins Cotswold Life Award
It is with a feeling of combined excitement and pride that we are able to share the following news; our very own Charles Smith has been named Chef of the Year at the Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards 2019. If you were not already of the opinion that we are one of the finest restaurants in Gloucestershire, then now is the time to reserve a table and taste for yourself.
According to the judges and the public who voted, Charles’ passion for food “shines through in his remarkable dishes. The use of quality produce is key and local produce is used wherever possible – even that from the hotel’s own garden.”
The awards are one of the biggest events in the Cotswold calendar – this was the 17th year of the publication championing the local food and drink industry. Each year, readers are invited to nominate their favourite establishments, markets and chefs and from there a shortlist is created. Shortlisted establishments are visited and in true nail-biting and competitive fashion, Charles’ category was the last award to be announced on the night (the celebrations took place at Cheltenham Racecourse, with Emma Samms presenting and celebrities such as Dom Jolly, Jilly Cooper, Laurence Llewellyn Bowen and PJ Crook attending.)
Three hundred local food and hospitality businesses were present ensuring that the event had a real community feel. In his speech, Charles kept things short and sweet – he thanked his wife and fellow team members Hanna and Michael were present to cheer him on.
Mike Lowe, editor of Cotswold Life believes in the pantry and produce of the Cotswolds. “We are in the fortunate position in this region of exporting more food than we import. Our fantastic, high quality products are in demand all around the world and the Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards will continue to support our local food and drink community”
The recognition of these awards offer makes a substantial impact on local businesses. As one of the most luxurious hotels in the Cotswolds, we believe in supporting local businesses and championing talent in our area. It is fantastic news that our restaurant and chef are being recognised in such a way.
Michael Obray, General Manager says “We are incredibly proud of Charles and absolutely delighted that Lords of the Manor has been awarded such a coveted accolade! It is a testament to the dedication of a team that is committed and passionate about giving our guests the best dining experience in the Cotswolds.”
