This January at our luxury Cotswolds hotel, we are embracing Hygge (pronounced hue-gah), the Scandinavian lifestyle trend for ‘being cosy and content’ ‘enjoying the good things in life with good people around you’. The Hygge is a Danish import, and a rather good one, we must say. Hygge embodies all things warm and good: firelight, friends and family, big meals around merry tables, you get the gist. Perhaps the Hygge is the reason Denmark is the happiest country on Earth? (Don’t believe us? Take a look at this article from The Telegraph).

Hygge embraces the idea of making the little, everyday events more meaningful and special. So if you’re looking to embrace life and appreciate the small things, then this could be the perfect New Year’s resolution for you. Lords of the Manor’s beautiful 17th Century country hotel in the Cotswolds is tucked away in the picturesque village of Upper Slaughter with views of the stunning countryside and rolling hills. Surround by plenty of peaceful circular walks and silent, star filled night skies, Lords of the Manor truly does embody the sentiment of the Hygge.

To get help you get into the true Danish spirit of Hygge, we serve coffee and cake Fika* style every afternoon by the fireside or you can take your treats outside and snuggle up by candlelight under tweed rugs. What on earth is Fika style we hear you cry? It’s not as strange as it sounds, we promise. Fika is simply the Swedish equivalent of afternoon tea, only with coffee. The word comes from the Swedish ‘fikabröd’, a word used to describe any number of pastries, especially traditional spiced buns. Delicious!

So what are you waiting for? Hygge yourself happy this New Year! You can find more information here, or call us today on 01451 820 243 to book.
