For yet another magical year, Westonbirt Arboretum will be lighting up its trails and trees this winter. Each year, a new lighting design is created for the Enchanted Christmas which covers roughly a mile of the arboretum’s pathways and trails. The trail truly does bring a touch of festive wonder to Westonbirt Arboretum’s impressive collection of trees (sourced from across the globe). You will not be disappointed by the spectacle of hundreds of trees lit up to create a twinkling yuletide wonderland. Each year’s awe inspiring lighting designs are kept closely under wraps, based on last year’s extraordinarily shimmery display (which you can view here) it’s sure to be magnificent! Not only can you view Westonbirt’s beautiful lighted trail, there will also be the opportunity to indulge in a hog roast, gourmet burgers, hot dogs, chips, jacket potatoes and baguettes or enjoy a warming hot chocolate with whipped cream (or Baileys!), or a steaming cup of delicious mulled wine.

For the very first time, the estate at Blenheim Palace will be illuminated for an unforgettable after dark festive trail which will lead you along winding paths; beside tranquil waters and through extraordinary Parkland landscaped by Capability Brown. The gardens will be transformed into a winter wonderland: Explore the scented Fire Garden; a sweeping circular carpet of dancing flames and lanterns, set against the backdrop of glittering ancient woodland and the dark night sky. Discover Christmas trees that sing; a swaying lawn of fibre optic colour; as well as sparkling hedgerows. The lake will be aglow with brightly-lit boats filled with sparkling surprises and, in the distance, you will be able to see the beautiful woodland across the Great Lake.
On top of all of this, visitors will be able to round off their stroll around Blenheim’s sparkling winter wonderland with a steaming mug of spiced cider; mulled wine; or hot chocolate. You can even indulge in a cone of freshly roasted chestnuts, or toasted marshmallows. Then make a quick final pit stop at the Palace’s well stocked gift shop, filled with tasty treats and other traditional fare.

Ring in the festive cheer with Gloucester’s stunning annual Lantern Procession. Local artists and schoolchildren have been working on a series of huge paper lanterns based on this year’s theme: the new play ‘Breaking The Ice’ – a true story about a polar bear who befriends a husky. The parade will travel along Southgate Street, Westgate Street and College Street and is followed by a free carol concert at Gloucester Cathedral. The perfect way to kick off the festive season.
