We like to think our little corner of the world is pretty magical at the best of times, but during the festive season it positively glows. One of the most exciting things about Christmas coming to the Cotswolds is all of the Christmas shopping to be done! There are lots of amazing local markets and events, and we’ve chosen our favourites just for you…

Bourton on the Water Christmas Fayre

The Christmas Fayre at Bourton on the Water is definitely one to add to your festive watch list. Not only will the 1st December bring a fantastic late night shopping event to the village, but the famous Bourton Christmas tree will be in the river. Oh yes, in the river. The gorgeous tree will be lit at 6.30pm on the 1st December and stay glowing until 5th January. The beautiful lights reflected in the babbling river are truly a sight to behold. On the night of the 1st, with the village bedecked with a plethora of twinkling lights, Christmas shoppers can meander through the streets and enjoy the festive fun.

Chipping Norton #FestiveChippy

On 4th December Chipping Norton will be fully entering into the Christmas spirit with a fantastic all day event which will include hot roast chestnuts, street food, hog roast, mulled wine, mince pies, stalls run by local charities, community groups and businesses as well as late night shopping until 8pm. Keep an eye on the ECN website for more details, because this is only the start of Chippy’s festive fun.

Stow on the Wold Christmas Tree Festival

So this event isn’t really shopping, but there will be snacks and drinks available and it is too amazing to miss! The dates for this year’s Christmas Tree Festival are yet to be confirmed, but we can tell you what’s in store. Last year’s extravaganza featured 40 real Christmas trees decorated by local children’s groups, schools, organisations and businesses. You can vote for your favourite tree and the winner will be announced at the end of the festival. As well as Christmas trees galore, you will be able to enjoy carol singing, Santa’s Grotto, refreshments and perhaps a few extra surprises! Keep your eyes peeled here for more info on the event.

Moreton in Marsh Christmas Market

The Moreton in Marsh Christmas Market presents a charming mix of eclectic stalls selling everything from delicious eats and treats, a spot of warming mulled wine to beautiful locally sourced hand-made crafts and gifts. This small local market has a wonderful festive atmosphere, bolstered by carol singing and the annual switch on of the towns Christmas lights.

Broadway Village Late Night Shopping

Broadway shops will be will be staying open a little later than usual for this lovely little late night shopping event, running on 25th November and 2nd December. Get fully into the festive spirit with carol singers, street entertainers and hundreds of mesmerising Christmas lights. With Broadway’s large range of incredible independent shops, delightful little tearooms, pubs and restaurants open 5.30pm until 8.30pm (or even later for some) you’ll be spoiled for choice! Why not indulge in a cheeky glass of mulled wine and a scrumptious mince pie while meander through the enchanting and festively decked Cotswold village?
